Reagan Bitler

Specializes in working with and creating art from dried gourds.

Bitler’s work stems from an appetency for nature and cultivates his attraction to shape, color and texture. Simplistic forms become transformed through his use of dark line pyrography, the intricate cut-out of negative space and the application of vibrant colors, leaving the admirer with a tribute to nature’s beauty. Bitler’s exploration with raw gourds as a canvas and his honing of the skills and processes of crafting them into works of art has spanned over more than a decade.

Peter Danko

I have a small shop and make my living designing and making furniture and cabinetry. I also draw musicians and paint, mostly the figure. My life is devoted to the pursuit of beauty. My designs, like art, has content and meaning beyond simple look and style. They explore the esthetics of recycled and repurposed materials. In terms of sustainability, my designs are orders of magnitude beyond anything you would have in your home. The materials and the way they are used are unfamiliar. Don’t misunderstand, a great majority of people appreciate my designs. They congratulate me for my vision. Yet because it lacks familiarity, few people actually buy my work. The odd thing about this is my work performs as well or better functionally. My chairs are comfortable, my cabinets easer to clean. My designs are long lasting and user friendly. They are the next logical step to provide comfortable and attractive utility in a world of Billions without crashing the environment. I draw mostly musicians; very fast and free. The line work describes the energy of the music and the movement of the musicians. My drawings also capture the likeness and spirit of the musicians. I paint mostly people, portraits and the whole figure. My personal challenge is to capture the spirit of the subject in just a few hours. I love color and its magic to bring out the personality of the subject.

Chloe Ford

Ever since I can remember, I’ve taken a strong liking to the arts and creativity. It’s why I have fallen in love with the fantastical worlds of the books, movies, and tv shows that I love; it’s why I became a writer and now study creative writing at Susquehanna University. But I have always been an artist, and seek to create and explore and try new things, whether that be drawing on paper, painting with acrylics, or having a hands-on sculpting session, I am constantly pushing myself to see what more I can do.

Utlilizing my 20-plus years as an educator and writer, this summer I am teaching a Creative Writing class at Windy Hill Senior Center. I am encouraging these seniors to create, share and embrace the amazing stories of their lives. I was raised for much of my life in Southern York County . My music , art, poetry and furniture draws heavily from my experiences here: the rural landscapes, the farms, the woods and streams. The gritty people who inhabit this beautiful area of Pennsylvania inspire me. I am a blues and Americana musician and perform under the name Olds Sleeper. My music is a mix of originals that draws from Delta blues, old country, folk and Americana. I have released over 20 albums of music that reflects my experiences in this region. My music can be found @ www.oldssleeper.bandcamp.com I have been featured on WITF as an artist of the month https://www.witf.org/2017/03/09/witf_music_olds_and_the_absolution/ , have been nominated as an artist of the year by Saving Country Music, (https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/?s=olds+sleeper) I was also featured as an emerging artist at the 2018 Susquehanna Folk Music Festival. I play extensively over the Lancaster/York/Gettysburg area. I will playing this October as part of the Parliament arts Courtyard Concert series. Also, this year I was honored to be included as part of The Kable House concert series in York. Over the past few years, I have played regularly at The King George Speakeasy, Wyndridge Farm, The GarryOwen in Gettysburg, and I also host a monthly show at Stoll and Wolfe distillery in Lititz, Pa. I love this region, and feel as though music helps me connect with many diverse characters. As an avid photographer, my work tends to focus on farm animals and the rural surroundings of York and Lancaster, Co. I love long drives with no plan. I also design and build primitive, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces inspired by German woodworking and Shaker styles. I used upcycled barn wood and reclaimed lumber to produce benches, hanging boxes, small cabinets and rustic frames. These pieces are never the same and are sold locally. I love to pour myself into creative endeavors, and I feel an obligation to share and encourage others to pursue their creative passions. I love the “chase” of art and music, and am always waiting for the next idea to drop.

Hollie Johns

Hollie Johns has been a practicing artist for 22 years, professionally. Her art has always been strongly influenced by the natural world around her, but more recently she states ” I have felt an increasing need to draw attention and appreciation to this beautiful earth that so many of us take for granted. Hollie attended Maryland Institute College of Art where she gained a BFA in general fine arts, with a focus on photography and illustration. Although she now considers herself a painter, she had never painted, other than her foundation oil class in college, but she picked up a brush and some craft store acrylics, and has been painting ever since Following art school, her plans to be a children’s book illustrator shifted when she was offered an opportunity to take over an art gallery with over 100 artists from her high school art teacher. Since then she has worked for many local organizations teaching inner-city art classes and creating murals for Creative York(formerly YorkArts), The Salvation Army, The Lighthouse Children’s Home and several local urban gardens. She has helped start and run many art programs and yearly art festivals that still exist locally. Her love of helping other artists show and market their work took a new avenue this year when she opened Virtue Local Art Market in Hellam, PA with her husband and two friends. Together they are showing 45 local artists and crafters, working to start a Second Saturday Event in Hellam, Wrightsville and Columbia, and offering free space for artists, non-profits and children’s events to happen every Saturday from May-October.

B. Jean Klinedinst

Jean has done art and creative things all of her life. Since a small girl she has created head turning and award-winning pieces of art. She attended 3 years at York County Vocational-Technical School where she graduated. She then attended 3 years at Pennsylvania School of the Arts in Marietta, Pennsylvania, majoring in Commercial Art & Photography. She has worked as a freelance artist for most of her life as well as worked at various commercial graphics businesses in the York & Lancaster area before starting Jestek Custom Graphics with her husband Steve in 1997. While much of what is done at Jestek is commercial in nature, Jean over time has reached back to her freelance artist roots and is offering her unique and creative art skills for hire for commission art jobs. Jestek gives her the opportunity to blend commercial processes and her original art as well. She is also putting her art out to galleries in the area for display and available for purchase. Jean is also offering private art lessons or small group instructional gatherings. Get one on one attention in an art technique that interests you. Or just make time with your friends to do something relaxing and artistic. She really enjoys teaching techniques in drawing, acrylics, watercolor, garment painting/embellishing, mixed media, crafts, and more.

Susan McDaniel

My mother taught me the basics of many fiber art techniques, so when I met Karen Paust in 2002, I was ready to really let go and do my own style of fiber art. Using no patterns, it is more comfortable to have the materials speak to me and suggest what they want to become. After many discouraging stabs, I began to take “mistakes” into a whole different direction. My stubbornness to not follow the rules has served me well, I believe. For it is then that you truly are walking the rope without a net and only see the next thing that needs to be done. People are curious about this process, as the results of my work vary so much. My work is best summed up with these words: Color & Texture. The components vary but often include fabrics of all types, yarn, crochet thread, felted wool, and beads. My wish is that the work makes people smile, laugh and think.

Judy Orcutt

I always loved the printed word and loved to draw. I had taken calligraphy classes locally and it was joyous to me; so I started to develop a line of calligraphy note cards. But they needed something in order to have some pizzazz. I saw a design that had a pressed flower and oh yay, I thought; I can do so much with that. Having studied botany in pharmacy school, an interest in plants and flowers was present; so it was a natural to identify and work with these wonderful flowers that I had pressed. My business, QuilliGraphy was started in 1997 and I had developed over 100 designs which I wholesaled and sold on line on my website. Presently I have 160+ designs. QuilliGraphy's mission is to use natural materials to create art that stimulates the mind, validates the spirit, and celebrates the universe. It celebrates life and beauty. QuilliGraphy is a socially conscious business, contributing to local art, local events, libraries and breast cancer research and greyhound rescue and the American Association of University Women.

Fiel Patricio is an artist based in York, Pennsylvania who exhibits locally, nationally and internationally. She creates abstract and experimental mixed media works using water-based mediums and integrating collage, linocuts, woodcuts and printmaking into her art. She is a signature member of Philadelphia Water Color Society and Baltimore Watercolor Society. Her work was not only shown in Pennsylvania (York, Philadelphia, Lancaster, Harrisburg, etc.) but also in New York, Maryland, Florida and Paris. She is also a published photographer. In 2019, she was honored as the York FineArts Festival (YorkFest) Featured Artist. Her work was also accepted at the Lancaster Museum of Art as part of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society’s (PWS) 40th International Juried Exhibition, the York Art Association’s 49th Annual Open Juried Exhibition and the Maryland Federation of Art’s 17th Annual “Small Wonders” Show, juried by Corcoran Gallery of Art Curator Emerita Linda Crocker Simmons. Theodore Prescott

I grew up outside of Boston, MA, and did my undergraduate work at Colorado College, in Colorado Springs. I got my MFA from the Rinehart School of Sculpture at MICA in Baltimore. After some years of bouncing around, I began teaching at Messiah University in Grantham PA., where I began the visual arts major. I taught at Messiah for 29 years, served as department chair for a little over a decade, and held two successive Distinguished Professorships. I’ve also taught at an American college program in Italy on several occasions. During all that time I have exhibited regularly, and completed several commissions, both public and private. I’ve also written for both academic and popular journals, and edited a book and several exhibition catalogs. My work is characterized by a love of the expressive and aesthetic potential of materials, and often draws on my experiences of the woods and mountains. I am interested in history of art, and sometimes incorporate it. I think that the “presence” of 3 dimensional imagery is both decorative and iconographic. I believe that all artistic imagery is at its core representational. I am versatile with a number of materials and processes, but have had things I can’t personally fabricate made by other craftsmen. On two large commissions I collaborated with other artists. I enjoy the process of working with clients during a commission, and developing imagery through that dialog.

Suzanne Rende

In ’93, I graduated from Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. My full time mural arts career began in ’96 while living in Southern California where I worked for several years.In 2000, I moved back to my home state of New Jersey where I continue to work with a host of clients in the area. Since ’16, I have resided in York working on commissioned murals and original artworks. I also own Naked Chick Art, a local artist collective, inside York Central Market. In April ’22, I opened a second collective,The Artful Nest, in Marietta, PA. In the summer of ’21 I was chosen by Parliament Arts Organization to paint a mural in downtown York during Yorkfest. It’s the biggest and easily the most rewarding mural yet. I received an Honorable Mention York County’s Most Influential People for 2022: Arts & Entertainment from YDR. Currently, I’m working on a collaborative mural to be painted on the Dreamwrights Center beginning August of ’22. I always strive to paint happy. My paintings primarily feature animals engaged and interacting in various ways. I try to paint a sweet story about the relationship between the critters or between the critter and the viewer. I want the viewer to appreciate the beauty and mood of animals and to smile. I feel that if looking at a whimsical bunny painting can stimulate a single person to smile then it was worth the time to paint. I don’t think art has to be moody, hard to read into or complicated to be relevant. Everyone can benefit from a smile.

Ivy Rodgers

I am a local, York-City based fine artist, illustrator, and writer. I graduated in 2018 from York College of Pennsylvania with honors. I have completed freelance work for Paco’s Tacos, The Cantina, Redeux Vintage Marketplace, York Day Nursery, The Parliament Arts Organization, as well as others. I am an instructor for Creative York, and I have currently been spearheading the Creative Aging program. I am open for freelance illustration, mural, and writing jobs. My studio/office is located in The Grotto Community Center. I have worked with numerous local organizations including teaching at Crispus Attucks Senior Day Center in partnership with Creative York.

_____________The Candid_____________ I’m an artist who is often found drinking a nice cup of tea in between, carving & printing, plotting & planning projects, and gardening or hiking with my pup all while meandering in my mind about infinite possibilities and the orbiting perplexity of things. . . Not so long ago, I wrapped up a 550 mile backpacking pilgrimage from the French Pyrenees down to the most western point in Finisterre, Spain, where I took a cleansing break from art making and dwelled in the peaceful simple gesture of walking. I cannot help but feel a new phase of art making is soon to emerge. What will it be? _____________The Expected_____________ Originally from central Pennsylvania, Rainbow Ross has lived on both the east and west coasts of the United States, as well as intervals abroad. Rainbow has worked as a printmaking teaching assistant at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon and Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art in Pont-Aven, France. She has also taught English and printmaking workshops while living in South Korea, India and the USA. In addition, Rainbow [via: Rainboeliza Studios] annually organizes several art based projects including the Postcard Project, the Print Portfolio Exchange, the Mini Scrap Exchange and Art:Toe. Her previous bodies of work explored nature, meditation, patterns, cultural exchanges, relationships and simple everyday isms. She primarily explores the subject matter through the use of printmaking, but also employs sewing, painting, building, and installation work. Rainbow has had numerous exhibitions while living in the U.S. and abroad.

I’m a 16 year old student at CASA in Harrisburg who has been Arting since my conception. This year, tenth grade is the first year I’m receiving Art instruction in academic form. I’ve worked with many local and non local artists and locations on collaborations, commissions, tattoo design, murals and such. Andi Simpson

Andi is located in downtown York, Pennsylvania. Andi studied fine art/art history and graduated with a BFA from Frostburg State University. Andi works with a variety of mediums, including acrylics, inks, and oils. She considers her art to be abstract. Her work exhibits an ethereal sense of warmth, light, and love but also elicits the sensitive chaos found in nature. Her paintings begin with a foundation comprised of multiple layers of color and a variety of textures. Building from that background she allows intuition to guide her. Defined shapes and forms present themselves organically as the piece progresses. She does not intend her work to espouse a specific message or extract a uniform reaction. Instead, she hopes to deliver a perpetually novel experience to each viewer, evoking unique visceral responses.

Emily White

Emily White is a papercutting artist and graphic designer who is passionate and approaches design problems in unrestricted, explorative ways. Studying fine art in her formative years, Emily focused on graphic design and completed her Associates with the Art Institute of York, Pennsylvania in 2010. From there she focused on freelancing and drank lots of coffee. In 2018 she completed her BFA at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design where she was the AIGA Central PA student president. Emily’s work has been shown across the United States. She’s been awarded the GDUSA Students Design Award in 2017 and an honorable mention ICMAD Young Designers Packaging Design Competition in 2018 which resulted in her designs traveling the globe. Currently she calls charming downtown York her home. Most days, you can find her sketching outside of local coffee shops with her dog or spending time with her community of creative friends
