Much of our lives involves the tension between control and chance. We strive to determine outcomes, but life throws the unexpected at us.

The art of the clay monoprint is based on a tradition where our new work literally builds on the prior. The artist designs the matrix for each original print upon the remnants of the prints before. Clay monoprint artists work to shape new expression with the knowledge that random elements of the past will merge with the new. As such, the medium focuses on process over product.

As an educator for over three decades, I strive to incorporate learning and community in much that I do, and believe that creative curiosity is something to aim for and share.
