10 out of 12…. Theatre Secrets are Revealed
The York College of Pennsylvania Division of Theatre proudly presents “10 out of 12” written by Anne Washburn and directed by Theater Professor Suzanne Delle. This backstage look at a technical rehearsal reveals the secrets that go into producing a stage play. The show will run Thursday, February 15- Saturday February 17, 2018 at 7:30pm in the Perko Theatre on York College’s campus.
Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at your favorite theatrical production? “10 out of 12” gives the audience a glimpse into the world of a “Techie”.You’ll listen in on backstage drama as it happens over headset. Experience the pains and joys that the technical crew endures during rehearsals – the accumulated frustration, gossip, snacks, lighting, sound cues, art – all play a part in the beautiful chaos of theater making. Prepare to listen in on cues from the stage manager played by Lacey Lowther (Theatre Major, 2021), get blocking from the director played by Marvin Dunmeyer (Mass Communications Major, 2019), and see the inside scoop of what goes into setting lights from the E2 played by Charity Stump (Theatre Major, 2020), and the lighting designer played by Kayla Manigault (Theatre Major, 2021).
York College audiences may remember playwright Anne Washburn as she also wrote “Mr.Burns: a post-electric play” which was performed last March on the main stage. Like the quirkiness of “Mr.Burns”, “10 out of 12” emotes that same intentional chaotic experience. Some say this play reveals the secrets of a production like a magician revealing how a trick is done. Anne Washburn confided in a interview that “tricks are often more exciting when you know how they’re done.”
