Gardening with Natives Tour & Seminar presented by the York County Master Gardeners and MAEscapes (MidAtlantic Ecological Landscaping).

Would you like to welcome more birds and butterflies to your backyard?
Join the Master Gardeners of York County for the 13th Annual Gardening with Natives Seminar and Tour! This seminar reveals the secrets of creating a wildlife habitat for both birds and butterflies. Learn from local experts and then travel with us and tour two properties in York County that have what it takes to attract birds and butterflies.

When: Saturday August 18, 2018 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Rain or Shine

Seminar topics:
“Creating a Bird Friendly Habitat”, presented by Tom Smith, West Nile Virus Program Administrator for York County, former York County President of the York County Audubon Society , the Executive Director of Keep York Beautiful and Master Gardener. When Tom is not working, he spends time enjoying his personal 1- 1/2 acre wildlife habitat, where he has documented seeing over 55 different bird species.

“Common Butterflies of Pennsylvania: Creating Habitat by Planting Larval Host Plants”, presented by Deb Carman, Penn State Master Gardener, York County MAEscapes Advisory Committee President and Butterfly and Moth Habitat Educator. Deb’s mission is to inspire others to make positive environmental changes in their gardening practices. Butterflies are excellent examples to show the complex connections between wild creatures and native plants. Through the natural attraction which people feel for butterflies, Deb teaches the importance of creating organic habitats with native plants that foster food webs and all wildlife.
