48th Annual Fall Show & Sale

Not the same ole’ same ole’.

The 48th Annual Fall Show & Sale, featuring work by members of the Hanover Area Arts Guild, opens Nov. 2. And the work will be new to the Art Downtown gallery, 32 Carlisle St., Hanover.
Jane West, who spearheads the Arts Guild’s Gallery Committee, said that’s a blessing and a curse.
“Many times, if I don’t have a deadline,” West said, “I’m not as focused. If I have a deadline or a specific reason to create, like the Fall Show, it inspires me.”
It also allows artists to broaden their horizons, she said. They experiment with style, medium and technique. They’re more comfortable doing that in the Fall Show, West continued, because all members’ work is entered and judged; they feel free to try their hand at something new.
“If you like it, you get to put it in,” she said, noting shows in other galleries have limited space and only a certain number of paintings are displayed. That can limit artists’ creativity. With this show, “you feel like you can experiment.”
Cash awards for the show will be presented during an open reception, 2-4 p.m. Nov. 6, in the Art Downtown Gallery, 32 Carlisle St., Hanover. The public is invited to attend. The Arts Guild has partnered with Brookmere’s Abbottstown Tasting Room for the reception.
The artwork will be on display throughout the month during regular gallery hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is always free.
The show continues through the end of November.
