Call for Works: "My York City" Art Show & Sale
Downtown Inc, the Cultural Alliance, and The Center for Community Engagement at York College are hosting an art auction & exhibition featuring works by area artists that showcase what downtown York means to them. “My York City” will be open to artists of all mediums to submit works that illustrate ‘their York’. What ‘My York City’ means and how it is interpreted is left completely to the artist, opening a dialogue between the artists and larger community on what defines our downtown.
How do you feel about our downtown? What does York City mean to you and your work as an artist? Downtown Inc., the Cultural Alliance, and the Center for Community Engagement at York College would like to know what artists can make of York in whatever medium they wish. We’re hosting an art auction and exhibition featuring works by area artist that showcase what downtown means to them. “My York City” will be open to artists of all mediums to submit works that illustrate ‘their York’. What ‘My York City’ means and how it is interprested is left completely to the artist, opening a dialogue between the artists and larger community on what defines our downtown.
“My York City” will feature works of all mediums and genres by York area artists in a display at Marketview Arts Gallery Hall in downtown York, February 5-27th 2016, with the opening show being held on February 5th on First Friday.
If you are interested in submitting to “My York City”, email the following information to Kelley Gibson at Kelley@culturalalliance-york.org:
-Subject line as: MY YORK CITY submission
-Full name, address, phone number, and website (anywhere your work is posted online)
-High quality image(s) that clearly depicts the artwork in .jpg format
-Title, Medium, Height x Width for each piece
-Pricing for each piece (pricing is determined by the artist, with the knowledge that 50% of proceeds will be shared by Downtown Inc./Cultural Alliance)
-Max. 150 word statement illustrating why the work depicts your feelings for York City
We request high quality images (1800 X 2400 pixels) for marketing and promotional purposes. Credit will be given if images are used. If images are too large to submit in one email, please compress images into a .zip file (put all images into a new folder, right click, then click “compress files”). Any submissions that do not follow these guidelines will be asked to re-submit.
All entries must be received on or before January 15th at 5:00pm, and artists will be notified shortly after. Upon acceptance, artwork will be due to the Marketview Arts gallery on January 25th 2016 by 5:00pm.
Admission is free. All works featured in the show will for sale, with 50% going to the artist and the remaining 50% of the proceeds from each sale being shared by Downtown Inc. and the Cultural Alliance to support their missions.
