Civil War Event at Ma & Pa Railroad Historic Village

The Ma & Pa Railroad Heritage Village at Muddy Creek Forks is again hosting a free Civil War event this Sunday from 1 PM to 4:30 PM. The 87th Pennsylvania, Company C, comprised of volunteer infantry re-enactors will be demonstrating the everyday training of the Union soldier during the Civil War. The re-enactors will show the techniques of the Manual of Arms, loading and firing by the nine count, and marching procedures that the soldiers drilled routinely. Whenever a regiment faced the enemy, a skirmish line was sent out to test the enemies’ strength. The 87th will display the methods of deploying those front-line soldiers. Due to concerns about COVID-19, these demonstrations will be held far enough from visitor contact to maintain individual safety.

This season, in addition to a motorcar train ride through the beautiful Muddy Creek Valley, visitors will take a 45-minute guided tour of the village led by costumed historical interpreters. There are four programs consisting of the guided tour and train ride Sunday at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 PM. The cost is a nominal $10 for adults and $7 for children. Because of COVID-19 restrictions capacity is limited to 25 people on each train.
