About Opera Susquehanna –
The Susquehanna River, which flows through our region and is the namesake for many of our businesses, schools, churches, and arts programs, is one of the oldest rivers in the world. It once made home to the Native American Susquehannock (Oyster River People). Once known for its rich, freshwater Oyster beds and accompanying pearls, Opera Susquehanna honors these ancient voices by actively remembering them, and empowering the people of our area with operatic theater and classical music. With a regional poverty rate of over thirty-five percent, we are focused on providing professional opportunities and early intervention to minority youths and people of color. We provide opera to a community otherwise unexposed to this art form. Like the oysters that once populated the Susquehanna River, we will create a pearl from a place least expected.
