Despite being struck by a devastating flood just a month ago, the Ma & Pa Railroad Heritage Village will be open for Heritage Day on Saturday, September 22. The annual open house runs 10 am to 5 pm. Fun for all – special exhibits, presentations, displays, demonstrations, children’s activities, delicious food, tours of the historic village and of course motorcar train rides through the scenic Muddy Creek Valley. Track working demonstrations will be offered, and visitors will have the chance to pump their way down the track on a handcar. As an added attraction, Heritage Day is the only time each season when Ma & Pa locomotive No. 82 and caboose No. 2007 are open to the public
Due to the severe track damage caused by the flood, only 1.2 miles of track for a 2.4 mile round trip will be in operation for Heritage Day. Because of this limited run, there will be no charge for the trains which will run every half hour. Free tickets are required and must be picked up at the station inside the A.M. Grove General Store. Passengers are asked to consider making a donation to support flood recovery efforts and restoration of the damaged track. Donations for track restoration can be made at Heritage Day or through a GoFundMe page that can be accessed on the Society website, www.MaAndPaRailroad.com
