A free, day-long celebration and exploration of all things music in downtown York for all ages and experience levels.
Join the York Music Teacher’s Association for a day of fun, free interactive activities to celebrate and explore all things music. Starting at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, guests will tour four different downtown locations to get hands-on with music with games, interactive activities, snacks and swag! All events are free and open to the public. Activities from 9am to 5pm listed below.
Studio and electronic music experiences with Studio 117 and Public Disco Porch at The Appell Center
• Looping pedals, vocoders, and professionally recorded “podcast-style” interviews let you make and share your musical story!
• Snacks & swag, games and (musical) story time all day at The Appell…and pop-up performances at Central Market and the Harmony Coffee Shop, too!
• See, Play & Paint the Blues at York College’s Marketview Arts: a stirring exhibit combined with unique activities (want to PAINT THE PIANO?) to spur artistic and musical exploration
• See it, make it, PLAY IT! at the instrument “Petting Zoo” hosted by Menchey and the York Junior and Youth Symphonies, the D.I.Y. flute & pan pipe station with Alicia, Junk Band with Jeff, and the keyboard corral (?!)
• Get inside the music with pipe organ “crawls” and hands-on hand chime and harpsichord demos planned all day long at St. John Episcopal and Heidelberg UCC
• Everyone can SING with the York County Honors Choirs directors Carlos Casilla and Rachel Morgan Im and SHINE with Peter Bottros and friends at Heidelberg UCC
• The MMC (Matinee Musical Club of York) will offer a recital at 2 PM
