Muggle History Summer Family Workshop Series- Hagrid's Kitchen

Get hands-on with our history and discover some surprising connections to the wizarding world.

Whip up a batch of rock cakes with your family!

With Hagrid being forbidden to use magic, his kitchen was a lot like the summer kitchen at the Colonial Complex. Ron, Hermione, and Harry spent a lot of time in Hagrid’s Hut eating rock cakes and drinking tea he prepared. Get hands-on with the types of tools Hagrid would have used for hearth cooking and mix up some rock cake batter that you will cook in a Dutch oven. Make your own tea blend to sip while you enjoy your rock cakes.

Families will be provided the supplies and tools for mixing a small batch of rock cakes. Groups of 6 or more will be divided into two smaller groups and provided supplies for two batches of rock cakes. Registrants will be able to try out some colonial cooking techniques and make their own herbal blend for a cup of tea.

Instructor: Ellen Gibb became involved with the Horn Farm Center after retiring from a career in the food industry, that included working at McCormick and Hanover Foods. At the Horn Farm, Ellen’s passion became the squirrel tail bake oven. Her experience with the bake oven and hearth cooking will be shared as part of the experience of “Hagrid’s kitchen.”
