The Nittany Trombone Quartet (NTQ), a group formed by four freshmen at Penn State in January 1988, will present a concert of holiday music at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 1, in York College’s DeMeester Recital Hall, Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall. The event is open to the public free of charge.
The NTQ is Bruce Tychinski, alto and tenor trombones (professor of trombone, University of Delaware); Sean Reusch, tenor trombone (freelance musician and co-founder of the Presidio Brass, San Diego); Jon Moyer, tenor trombone (music department chair and intermediate band director, Central York School District and adjunct professor of low brass at York College); and Matt Neff, bass trombone (bass trombonist of the U.S. Navy Commodores Jazz Band, and adjunct professor of trombone, George Mason University).
The ensemble was one of the national finalists in the Music Teachers National Association Wurlitzer National Chamber Music Competition, representing the northeast region. Following graduation, the members' individual careers sent them in four different directions, but they remain in close contact and perform together whenever possible, including workshops, concerts, and master classes throughout the United States. This concert of holiday music, from the group's CD Christmas with the Nittany Trombone Quartet, features all-original contemporary arrangements composed by members of the quartet and colleagues.
