Peter Pan and Mary

Can Mary Davis prevent the grown-ups from taking over Neverland? Or will Peter Pan and his merry band of Lost Boys walk the plank?

Complete with swashbuckling, lost boys, and fairies, Peter Pan and Mary is the clever and imaginative prequel to J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan and Wendy. Written by Paige Hoke and Guest Directed by Andrea Unger, DreamWrights’ world premiere performance showcases a total of 48 cast members and nearly 80 crew members working together to pull off the magic and mystique of Neverland. This exciting production promises to entertain and delight audiences.

Unger says the casts have been having fun learning the fight scenes, which are more creatively choreographed than they are dangerous. She explains, “We have adults (pirates) fighting children (lost boys), which makes for an interesting dichotomy. We brought on [local Renaissance era experts] Chris Roemele and Shannon Hallisey to choreograph those sequences and teach stage fight basics to our casts. Our fight captains, Kirk Wisler and Jonah Unger, took over from there, ensuring safety, consistency, and adding a few embellishments.”
Playwright Hoke explains that she wrote Peter Pan and Mary as a prequel to answer questions such as, “What happened in Neverland before Wendy, John, and Michael? Have you ever wondered how Peter Pan learned to crow? Or how Captain Hook lost his hand? What about how the Darlings got a dog for a nanny?”

Many of the cast and crew, like Stage Manager, Dana Cutti, have fallen in love with the story line. “It is a cute twist on the beloved story and features many new and old characters that all come together by the end of the show.” Becky Marcus, who plays the mother of Mary says, “It’s so fun to get to develop such wonderful characters.”
