Second Saturday Lecture- What is Juneteenth?

What is Juneteenth? One of the oldest African-American holidays, we will discuss the origins of Juneteenth and what it means today.

June 12- Carla Christopher, What is Juneteenth?
Considered one of the oldest African-American holidays, Carla will share with us the history of Juneteenth and what this celebration means to Black communities today.
Pastor-Poet-Activist, Carla Christopher, is a former Poet Laureate of York, Pennsylvania (2011 – 2013), an international level cultural competency and diversity trainer, and a renewal pastor with the ELCA Lutheran church. Carla studied psychology, education, and creative writing at Columbia University in the City of New York and spent years as an educator and case manager in domestic violence shelters, state prison systems, and school districts before uniting her belief in the power of relationship and storytelling with her passion for activism.
Carla has twice received the key to the city for her community empowerment and education initiatives, as well as numerous awards for advocacy and ministry.
