The Snow Queen

Presented by Theatre Arts For Everyone (TAFE) at Logos Academy, York PA

Mar 08 - 10 2019
The Snow Queen

This tale is about the struggle between good and evil. Watch as Gerda tries to rescue her friend Kay from the icy clutches of the Snow Queen

This wonderful story written in 1844 by Hans Christian Anderson is, in fact, his longest and most highly acclaimed story.  Since 1913 it has been retold in operas, film, plays, musicals, dance productions, comic books, video games, and on television.  It is even believed to be the basis for Disney’s Frozen, which the studio began work on in 1943. It opened in 2013!

The adaptation that TAFE is proud to be presenting is its premiere production!  It is written by York’s own Paige Hoke.  Paige is a multi-talented theatre artist.  She is equally adept acting, directing, writing, and teaching. Currently the Director of Theatre at York Country Day School, Paige has been active in community theatre here in York, since she was very young. She was only away long enough to earn her theatre degree.

TAFE is also honored to be including the last pieces of music that Jacquie Sutton had finished writing for The Snow Queen, the evening before she left our world. They are titled simply “Snow” and “Gypsies”. Thank you, dear and talented friend.  Though you will not be able to play for us, your music and our memories will keep you with us forever.

Our cast is comprised of 31 characters.  You will meet four funny hobgoblins, five lovely snow flakes, four flowers, a tribe of gypsies, a princess, her hand maidens, a Prince, a crow, a reindeer, an enchantress, a Lapland and Finland Woman, Gerda, Kay, their friends, Grandmother and The Snow Queen herself.
