Tim O’Brien & Jan Fabricius

Tim O’Brien: Bluegrass innovator and roots music superstar, Grammy and IMBA award winner, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

Roots-music superstar Tim O’Brien is a West Virginia native, a singer and multi-instrumentalist, a GRAMMY-winning (and -nominated) songwriter, and two-time International Bluegrass Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year. Starting out as a Bluegrass innovator in the 1980s with his band Hot Rize, he’s also got serious chops in jazz, Celtic and Americana. Expect some stellar harmonies as Tim will be joined onstage by his partner Jan Fabricius.

Tim grew up singing in church and in school, and headed to Colorado in the 1970s to pursue music professionally. Kathy Mattea scored a country hit with her cover of his song Walk The Way The Wind Blows in 1986. Artists like Nickel Creek and Garth Brooks have covered his songs, and he’s collaborated with artists ranging from his sister Mollie O’Brien, to old time musician Dirk Powell, to songwriters Darrell Scott, Steve Earle, and Mark Knopfler.

A prolific recording artist, Tim has 17 solo albums, including a new one just this year. He has recorded 11 with Hot Rize and another 8 with other collaborators. His 2006 album “Fiddler’s Green” won a GRAMMY for Best Traditional Folk Album, and his song “Keep Your Dirty Lights On” (with Darrell Scott) was a nominee for the very first “Best American Roots Song” Grammy (2014).
