Join Marketview Artist in Residence Ophelia Chambliss for a discussion about visual rhetoric.
Visual rhetoric starts with what we see coming into our eyes and ends with how we interpret and make meaning out of what we see.
Visual rhetoric is part of a communication process where we interpret and make meaning out of the world around us in a space where communication takes place. In art, we often communicate visually by not even realizing it. This is done by color selection, size, proportions, shapes, and the relationships of objects chosen. The rhetoric of an image is also impacted by society, personal experiences, and things that we establish as norms. A key part of visual rhetoric is also timing. Timing can also be referred to as savoir faire is the ability to act or speak appropriately in social situations, or in terms of visual rhetoric, communicating by doing, knowing, or expressing the right thing at the right time in social situations.
In this presentation, Ophelia will show you how she utilizes visual rhetoric in her work to express concepts, ideas, messages, and more.
This event will be held online via Zoom.
