Incorporated in 1742, Newberry Township was an early haven for Quakers. Lewisberry, Newberrytown, York Haven, Yocumtown and Goldsboro prospered because of their proximity to the Susquehanna River. Fast forward to the 21st century, and Newberry Township is home to more than fourteen thousand people.
“Preserving the History of Newberrytown” is a Facebook group dedicated to preserving, collecting, researching, and interpreting historical information or items north of York County’s Conewago Creek. What started as a hobby during the pandemic has transformed into a passion project. Through Facebook, and community meetings, Dominish Marie Miller has been able to create a platform for sharing her love of local history and preserving it for future generations.
Domi’s presentation will cover the history of northeastern and northern York County as well as cover how one passionate student of history tells stories about that region. Domi holds a master’s degree in library science and serves as Third Circuit Court of Appeals librarian. Recently, she has appeared with local historian Jamie Kinsley in the Facebook livestream and YouTube series: “Hometown History: Jamie and Domi Talk YoCo’s Backstory.”
The York County Writers’ Roundtable networks writers and researchers of York County and regional history. The group meets on the first Thursday of every quarter at 7:00 p.m. at the Historical Society Museum, Library & Archives a 250 E. Market St.  This event is free and open to the public.  Hope to see you there!
