The THIRD Confederate Invasion of the North occurred in the summer of 1864 and is often lost within the larger campaigns for Petersburg, Atlanta and later the Shenandoah Valley. This invasion was a last ditch effort to redirect Federal forces away from Richmond, re-leave pressure against the Army of Northern Virginia, and just maybe disrupt the reelection of Abraham Lincoln, thereby changing the  course of the war.
Matthew Borders is a graduate of Michigan State University with a BA in US History and Eastern Michigan University with an MS in Historic Preservation focusing on Battlefield Interpretation.  Moving to Maryland in 2007 with his wife Kira, he worked as the historian for the American Battlefield Program for six years. Over this period he also became involved with the Frederick County Civil War Round Table and is currently the president. Matt is also a Certified Battlefield Guide both for Antietam National Battlefield and Harpers Ferry National Historical Site.
Currently Matt is a Park Ranger at Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick, Maryland. He continues to volunteer regularly as a living  history volunteer portraying Federal infantry and along with fellow guide, Joe Stahl, has published his two books, “Faces of Union Soldiers at Antietam” and “Faces of Union Soldiers at South Mountain and Harpers Ferry.

Founded as the White Rose Civil War Round Table, the York CWRT holds monthly meetings the third Wednesday of every month except December at 7:00 p.m.  Each meeting features a guest speaker talking about a Civil War topic of local or national interest. Meetings are FREE and open to the public. Click here for more information on upcoming programs.
