When it comes to understanding Civil War – or any history – there’s nothing like tramping around York County’s 900+ square-miles to find sites with meaning. Where exactly did freedman Samuel Smith operate his family’s Underground Railroad station near Shrewsbury? Where is Horse Thief Lane and why is it so named? Two veteran trampers – Scott Mingus and Jim McClure – have chosen a score of places, among many, that have significance in a presentation titled: “Rediscovering York County’s Lost Underground Railroad and Civil War Sites.” They will present at the February meeting of the York Civil War Roundtable etc. etc.
Founded as the White Rose Civil War Roundtable, the York CWRT holds monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of every month except December at 7:00 p.m. Each meeting features a guest speaker talking about a Civil War topic of local or national interest. Meetings are FREE and open to the public. Click here for more information on upcoming programs.
