Faculty Recital: The York Chamber Players
Friday, April 12, 2019, 7:30 p.m.
DeMeester Recital Hall, Wolf Hall
The York Chamber Players will present a 100th Anniversary performance of Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) by Igor Stravinsky. Based on a Russian Folktale, but in the tradition of other Faustian cautionary parables, Histoire du Soldat follows a young soldier who trades his violin with the devil in disguise – trading for a book that tells the future and promises wealth. Most members serve on the faculty at York College and several also teach at the YCPrep Community Music School. The group is dedicated to presenting a wide array of chamber music repertoire for various ensemble configurations. While the group does perform music from the standard repertoire, it is especially devoted to lesser-known works deserving of wider exposure. The group is also dedicated to engaging directly with its audience and to presenting musical works in multidisciplinary contexts.
This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.
