Student Piano Recital: Music by Women Composers

For centuries, women were discouraged from entering the male-dominated field of composition. During the 19th century, several remarkable women, including Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Clara Wieck Schumann, and Amy Beach, overcame this uphill battle to make significant contributions to the music world. The 20th and 21st centuries have proven to be more hospitable towards women composers, but their music is still woefully underrepresented in concert and recital programs. Students from the York College Division of Music and the York College Preparatory Community Music School will present a recital of music by women composers.
