York County Libraries Summer Read 2020 | Resilience with Sheryl Sandberg & Adam Grant’s Option B

Join YCL, WellSpan Health, & WITF to explore the book “Option B” with best practices for a healthy mind under unexpected circumstances.

Each summer, York County Libraries partners with community health organizations to read a health-focused book and discuss the issues raised by the book. In 2020, we invite you to join York County Libraries, WellSpan Health, and WITF as they explore the book “Option B,” which deals with best practices for a healthy mind under unexpected circumstances.

“Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy” is authored by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant. It is a powerful, inspiring, and practical book that Sandberg wrote after suffering a loss that upended her life. “Option B” offers readers steps to build resilience and ways to move forward in a healthy way after life’s inevitable setbacks. York County Libraries will host a series of discussions on issues raised in “Option B” in August and September of 2020.

You can place a hold on Option B with your York County Libraries card here. There are print, CD audio, ebook, and eAudio versions available. Many regional WellSpan Health locations will have the book available, as well.

Topic discussions will occur Thursdays in Zoom, in a virtual format. These will be interactive events with professional health specialists talking about different topics raised within the book. You can come to any of the events you are interested in by filling out the RSVP form for each event on the York County Libraries website (linked below). You must RSVP to attend the events, as we need to be able to email login information to each individual before each discussion starts.
The list of weekly topics is:
August 6 at 7pm            Health, Illness, and Injury
August 13 at 7pm          Becoming Resilient and Raising Resilient Kids
August 20 at 7pm         Incarceration
August 27 at 7pm          Divorce and Family Challenges
September 3 at 7pm     Grief and Loss

All programs will be held on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Early registration is highly recommended.
Additional YCL book discussions will be held online, including:
August 10 at 7pm Virtual online book discussion at Paul Smith Library in Shrewsbury
September 1, 8, 15, 22 at 6pm York Reads Online discussions at Martin Library in York

Participants in “A Summer Read” who complete a survey on the Transforming Health website will be entered to win an autographed copy of the book and hear the authors speak at an exclusive online event on September 29th. Thirty winners will be chosen from submitted surveys; visit transforminghealth.org for details.
