“At the moment I am experimenting with paintings of water,  in hope to capture its many personalities.  There is a life force that illuminates from water, so how do I capture that in a painting?  I love to play with warm and cool colors in similar values that causes excitement and interest.   I’m always focuses on shapes and values while working, so it surprises me when people comment on the details they see in my paintings. Details are never my intention.”
Stephenson’s professional education began at Kendall School of Design in
Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduating, she went to New York City to
work as a graphic designer. Marion began attending classes at the Art
Students League and soon became a full time student immersed in the study
of classical painting with Frank Mason and Robert Hale.  Throughout the
years she also has taken workshops with Albert Handell, Burt Silverman,
Max Ginsburg, and John Howard Sanden, to name a few.
Marion’s work has been shown in numerous galleries, solo and group
shows, and juried exhibitions; the last one was at the Lancaster Art Museum Show, where she was awarded the People Choice Award.  In her portfolio there
are many public and private commissions ranging from landscape paintings,
portraits, to murals. Included in her body of work are two large, outdoor
murals: one for the city of York, PA (“From Farm to Market”); the other for the
National Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia, PA.
Memberships have included the National Pastel Society, Oil Painters of America,
American Women Artists, Art Student League (Life Member), York Art
Association. Also, Marion received a scholarship membership to the
Salmagundi Club while a student at the Art Students League in New York.
