Stephen H. Smith will uncover the story of York County native Karl Ort, and his impact on the development of commercial aviation.
The History Center’s October Second Saturday program will feature York Daily Record blogger, and award winning author, Stephen H. Smith. Smith will explain how Yorker Karl Ort earned his wings as a WWI aviator, and his pioneering accomplishments during the earliest days of commercial aviation.
Based on Smith’s article in the recent release of the Journal of York County Heritage, Smith will highlight Ort’s impact on aviation and his experiences growing up in York. Additionally, Smith will also discuss other York County World War I aviators’ stories and sacrifices.
