ILLUSTRATING CHILDREN’S BOOKS AND BEYOND

ILLUSTRATING CHILDREN’S BOOKS AND BEYOND

Presented by York Art Association at York Art Association

W6 Winter ILLUSTRATING CHILDREN’S BOOKS AND BEYOND

INSTRUCTORS:  Maryel Henderson & Kelly Pedersen

Learn the basics of how to get a book ready for submission to publishing companies for consideration from two published children’s book authors!  The emphasis of the talk will be on illustration. However, the components of how to start and write a children’s book to completion will also be covered. Maryel and Kelly will discuss the materials they used in starting and finishing the illustrations for their books. The processes they used from the thumbnail sketches to the finished illustrations.  They will discuss what a “dummy book” is and how to complete one.  They will also reveal the different avenues that exist for publishing a book and discuss the pros and cons of each.   They will bring samples of the various stages of their books to share with the group. This class is focused on “picture books”, books for small children up to about 3rd grade.  If you’ve ever thought about illustrating children’s books, this is the session for you!
