Guest Lecture: Jay L. Cooper, Entertainment Attorney

With technology changing very often, business and legal professionals must keep up with new trends and be forward-thinking to attempt to navigate the new economic landscape. That is where Jay Cooper, entertainment lawyer, whose expertise in the music industry, motion picture, television, Internet, multimedia, and intellectual property issues comes into play. He is recognized internationally as a leading expert on copyright law pertaining to music.

Cooper is not only an entertainment lawyer, but he is also a former professional musician. He has worked with stars such as Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. He also played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Cooper now counsels big name clients such as Jerry Seinfeld, Katy Perry, screenwriter David Seidler (The King’s Speech), and Sheryl Crow. In the 1960s, he represented bands such as the Monkees, the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield. He will discuss the various challenges associated with music industry e-commerce, licensing and the legal process.
