The Yorkfest Youth Art and Literary Competitions is an exciting opportunity for young artists and writers to share their work. The awards ceremony is at 2 pm on August 25 at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum located at 217 West Princess St in York. The jurors for both the art and literary competitions will announce the winners in each category and literary winners will be invited to read a selection of their winning piece. All participants will have their work on display for audience members to enjoy. The exhibit is on display throughout the weekend of Yorkfest.

About our 2019 Youth Literary Competition Juror:
Carol Clark Williams is poet laureate emeritus of York, Pennsylvania and a rostered artist for the Arts in Education StART Something. She teaches poetry workshops in high schools, libraries, prisons, support groups, and halfway houses. She has recently received the Above and Beyond award from the National Federation of State Poetry Societies for her work with young people. Carol’s poems have been published in print and online journals including Mad Poets Review, Margie, Byline, Passager, The Pedestal, and Bent Pin Quarterly. She has authored two poetry books: Escaped Without Injury and Stories of the Tribe.

About our 2019 Youth Art Competition Juror:
Kayla Krebs holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Kutztown University. Since graduating, she has substitute taught in several school districts throughout York County. She led art camps at Creative York and Lancaster Museum of Art. Kayla has worked as juror for several art competitions including the Yorkfest Youth Art Competition, Chalk Walk, and most recently, the Lancaster County Young Artists/Scholastics Art Awards. She has been working at Creative York for ten years now and loves seeing children’s excitement as they create and discover new things.
