Casting Shadows final presentation

Presented by Center for Community Engagement at York College of Pennsylvania at Center for Community Engagemen

A Visual Exhibition and Celebration of York’s Black American History

York College Center for Community Engagement • August 2018 through September 2019

Featuring a presentation, and original works of art by Ophelia M. Chambliss

Casting Shadows is a visual representation of York’s Black American history, community, and stories. It is also a project designed to change the narratives we tell about the Black history and the Black community.

The images depict York’s Black leaders from emancipation, through the civil rights movement, into the present conversations.  The product of scholarly research and conversations with York’s current residents, it is told through more than 20 original works of art that highlight the historic vitality of our community.

We hope that you will join us and be a part of this conversation.

Come see, hear, and contribute to this and other related celebrations of “York’s Hidden Figures,” a year-long celebration of York’s communities of colors, its leaders, and its citizens.

Together, we can tell the untold stories and make history.
