Docent Day training this Saturday

Docent Day training this Saturday

Presented by Ma & Pa Railroad Preservation Society at Ma & Pa Railroad Village

The Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Preservation Society is looking to expand its corps of trained volunteers at the Heritage Village at Muddy Creek Forks this season. During the season which runs from June through mid-December, historically trained volunteers (referred to as docents) welcome and interact with guests who visit the village.

The Society’s annual docent training day occurs Saturday, May 14th, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the A.M. Grove General Store at Muddy Creek Forks, 1258 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Airville, Pa. The museum is looking for people interested in serving as historical interpreters, store clerks, ticket agents, mill interpreters, tour guides, and motorcar train operators. Ma & Pa RR fans, people interested in milling, and history buffs are encouraged to volunteer. Newcomers and experienced docents will review basic principles of working with the public and learn about the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad, the village of Muddy Creek Forks, and how the railroad transformed the lives of our great grandparents a century ago. This fascinating history cannot be found in any text book.

Advance registration for the volunteer day/operator training is required to provide an accurate attendee count for lunch and for preparation of docent manuals and other training materials. Individuals are asked to contact:Volunteer@MaAndPaRailroad.com or call Bob Wieners at: 443-922-9216.
