Part of the Story is a unique book-based program that engages teens, grades 9 – 12, in discussing topics with real-life impact. Teens can then create a call to action for their community in response to the book’s themes. Teen Mental Wellness is this year’s theme (voted on by teens).
The 2023 ‘Part of the Story’ book is… The Disturbed Girl’s Dictionary by NoNieqa Ramos. The program includes time with the author and related activities, lunch, and an afternoon working in groups to design theme-focused billboards for LAMAR Advertising.
The day will begin with author NoNieqa Ramos leading an interactive workshop for teens about her book, its themes, and her writing process. Participants will receive a free copy of The Disturbed Girl’s Dictionary (while supplies last) and will engage in several small group activities surrounding the theme of Mental Wellness. Staff from LAMAR Advertising will run a Billboard Design 101 session. Students will then work in small groups to create an impactful billboard design based on the book. A panel of judges will evaluate the designs and the winning design will be displayed on billboards around York County!
The event will be held at Martin Library on February 2, 2023! Inclement Weather Date: February 9, 2023
