World War II encampment weekend at Ma & Pa Railroad

Presented by Ma & Pa Railroad Preservation Society at Ma & Pa Railroad Village

The Ma & Pa Railroad Heritage Village at Muddy Creek Forks invites you to experience their annual World War II encampment weekend Saturday, August 26, 11am-5pm and Sunday, August 27, 1-5pm. Admission to the event, which is held outdoors at 1258 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Airville, PA, is free. The museum grounds will be filled with period tents, equipment, supplies, armaments, and vehicles. The re-enactors are very knowledgeable, providing accurate interpretations of the various armies and are happy to interact with visitors. On both days units from opposing armies will engage in a skirmish led by the Big Red One Living History Organization, based in Craley.

Forty-five-minute motorcar train rides are available a quarter after each hour both days. Tours of the village will also be offered during the encampment. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.MaAndPaRailroad.com.

Other weekend activities include presentations by Rosette Lobel, 84, a Holocaust survivor; Tristan Holley with a military equipment display; Christine Turk with a display on war bond drives showing the civilian homefront war support, and Chris Brang with a Victory Garden display showcasing the role of agriculture and farmers in supporting the war effort. A small low-powered “put-put” engine used in farming will be in operation as well. Finally, there will be a living history display of a factory worker apartment during that time.
