First look at new series by Steph Holmes; meet the artist

Presented by SMALL STAR Art House and YorkPAstuff at Unknown

Join us in welcoming Steph Holmes, our featured artist for July in the gallery at SMALL STAR Art House, and get the first look at her brand-new series of painted illustrations, “Closer.”

In Steph’s words: “This series is filled with fantasy-inspired scenes of insects, snails, dragonflies, and other beings from a micro world. This world is not so far from our own and is filled with vivid colors and characters. These paintings look through the same lens of empathy with which I view the world as well as the subtle dark feeling that comes along with that perspective.”

Steph works with many materials and styles and teaches ceramics, collage, and drawing classes at Creative York. She exhibited most recently in Creative York’s Project Space with the art installation “Specimens.” Other selected exhibitions include “Doot” at the Michael Sickler gallery in Syracuse, NY, and “Lost World, Found World,” a juried show at the DOSHI Gallery at the State Museum of Pennsylvania; her sketchbook is available for checkout at the Brooklyn Art Library’s permanent collection.

Come meet Steph (5-7:30), discuss her art, browse the rest of the gallery (including works by new YorkPAstuff artists), and relax in our lounge with free drinks from Brewery Products.

You can also see the locally made film “The Gettysburg Story,” which describes the battle in a unique way, using the latest technology and gorgeous time-lapse photography of the actual grounds. Showtimes are 3:00, 5:30 & 7:30; tickets are $10 (www.smallstaryork.com).

Come to SMALL STAR and take a new and different look at things familiar.
