Brian Neely: Places We Live Exhibit

Brian Neely: Places We Live Exhibit

Presented by Hanover Area Arts Guild at Hanover Area Arts Guild

Brian Neely has worked and lived on four continents.

During September, visitors to Art Downtown in historic Hanover can experience that life with him through his photographs.

The exhibit, “Brian Neely: Places We Live,” is the Hanover Area Arts Guild’s September show.

It began “… somewhat organically,” the Hanover resident said. “I’d shoot a farmhouse while on a visit to Pennsylvania, a doorway that’s sealed shut in Kazakhstan, a pair of yachts in a harbor in Greece. I’d photograph a man standing on a dusty street in Afghanistan, or children playing at a Tibetan refugee center in India.

“I didn’t really think about a goal or a philosophy until I shot a blanket piled on a sheet of cardboard in an abandoned train station in northern Greece,” said the U.S. State Department employee. “I realized as I looked at the negative that I had a growing body of work, and that it showed my worldview in a way that no other series could.”

An opening reception is planned for the exhibit at Art Downtown. The reception, for family, friends and the community, is set for 2-4 p.m. Sept. 3, at the Art Downtown Gallery, 32 Carlisle St., Hanover.

There is no charge. The gallery is always free.
