The Wiz 2017

The Wiz 2017

Presented by Weary Arts Group and York Jewish Community Center at Appell Center for the Performing Arts

Weary Arts Group’s annual production, in partnership with the York Jewish Community Center and the York Youth Symphony Orchestra (recipient of Cultural Alliance Creative Impact Awards Community Grant), of The Wiz is coming up on May 13th at 2PM and 7PM! This soulful, urban twist on the Wizard of Oz is a show that you will want to see again and again. WAG chose this show because the central theme of exploration, discovery, and friendship resonates with our mission. Also, anyone can identify with the characters… but the main reason is because the music is infectious and it keeps you moving in your seats!

When a young lady named Dorothy tries to save her dog, Toto, from an approaching tornado, she’s miraculously whisked away to an urban fantasy land called Oz. After accidentally killing the Wicked Witch of the East upon her arrival, Dorothy is told about the Wiz, a wizard who can help get her back home. As Dorothy goes in search of the Wiz, she’s joined by the Scarecrow, who wishes he had a brain, the Tin Man, who wishes he had a heart, and the Cowardly Lion, who wishes he was just a little braver.
