Presented by BPOE - York Elks Lodge #213 at Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing & Peace Garden / Veterans Memorial Park

History: In 1907 the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks designated by resolution June 14 as Flag Day. The Grand Lodge adopted mandatory observance of the occasion by every lodge in 1911 & that requirement continues today. President Woodrow Wilson, a loyal Elk, recognized the Order’s observance of Flag Day & in 1937 Pennsylvania became the first state to make Flag Day a legal holiday.

Ceremony: Wednesday, June 14, 2017

The ceremony, sponsored by York Elks Lodge #213,  will be held at the Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing and Peace Garden, Veterans Memorial Park, 1000 Vander Ave., York, PA. The program will feature key note speaker the Honorable Craig T. Trebilcock, COL USAR, patriotic music by the Spring Garden Band and a presentation of the history of our flag.   American Flags will be given to those who attend the ceremony.  In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at BPOE – York Lodge #213, 223 N. George Street, York PA.   A picnic style supper will be held at the York Lodge following the ceremony.  Picnic cost is $5 per person.
