CONTIGUOUS is a community-building exhibition featuring the portraits of 60 individuals representing York’s rich diversity.
This exhibition features 60 portraits painted by Ophelia Chambliss with the purpose of encouraging fellowship and understanding among a large group of people who vary in age, skin color, religious affiliation, and economic class. Those whose portraits have been painted will spend time with one another, asking questions that explore commonality, with the aim of removing invisible barriers that keep us apart.
The exhibition also includes a hand-lettered alphabet, an important tool of communication that allows for greater understanding between people, by York College student Lexus Gore titled Bittersweet Delights.
CONTIGUOUS is sponsored by a grant from the York County Community Foundation.
