Living through the war with J.W. Gitt on the Hanover Junction Railroad Experience

Presented by Northern Central Railway at Northern Central Railway

Fall is here!!!  Enjoy a cool scenic ride through the beautiful countryside of York County to Hanover Junction, PA, on a historic railway that dates back to the late 1820s. Ride along with a 1957 PA GP 9 (converted to GP 10 in 1979) at the only place in the world where an original Pennsylvania railroad locomotive runs on a genuine Pennsylvania rail line. Enjoy the countryside and your visit to the Hanover Junction Museum on the stopover.

Josiah Gitt was a dry goods merchant from Hanover, Pennsylvania who owned a farm in York County. He, along with other farmers throughout the region suffered greatly in June 1863 as passing soldiers took animals and other supplies from the surrounding countryside. Gitt and others later sued the federal government for the damages done to their properties. Hear his stories about life during these challenging times while riding on the Northern Central Railway.

This is a diesel ride.
