In December of 2018 Amy graduated from HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College with an AFA in Photography. During her final two semesters she explored the encaustic technique and combining this with her photography. The encaustic paintings consists of melting bees wax that has been mixed with damar resin (tree sap) into a liquid and applying it to the photos or other media. Additional colored pigments such as oil paints can be added to the wax or applied directly to the wax surface.
Combining the wax with her fine art photography creates a mixed media that hovers between the realm of painting  and photograph and elevates her work to a new level. Amy strives to present to her audience something they’ve never seen before. She has won numerous awards for her work, taking second place for the mixed media category at the Lititz Outdoor Fine Art Show in 2019. All the images shown here are her own original photographs mixed with the encaustic medium and hand colored with pan pastels. Amy is very excited to get back to shows and meeting people and sharing her art.
