YorkPAstuff was started by local artist and entrepreneur Carmen Walsh to help makers from York County sell their creations and to spread a positive image of York.

After learning how much time and work go into the post-creation steps of marketing, exhibiting, and selling art, Carmen decided to promote other artists' and artisans' works — to help avoid the sad story of incredible creations gathering dust in attics, basements, and spare rooms. There is no cost for makers to participate; a (less-than-typical) commission is taken only when items sell. It's a win-win: Makers have more of an opportunity to sell their pieces, and the community enjoys easy access to a variety of locally made creations — from woodcarvings and upcycled furniture to abstract paintings and photography to pottery and jewelry. The selections will continue to change and expand as more makers get involved.

YorkPAstuff also sells merchandise that explicitly celebrates York — with a logo that ties into the area's manufacturing history and the idea that we can actively create the community we want, "making a better life" for ourselves and our families. So far, the logo has been locally screenprinted on apparel and tote bags as well as etched into glassware and imprinted onto pottery items. Quality York souvenirs, anyone? Yes. It is time.
