On October 6, 2019, Stephen Smith will present Never Built . . . The Town of Pleasant Garden and Other Curiosities

The files of the York County History Center contain an old hand-drawn plan of the Town of Pleasant Garden.  The town has named streets and contains 175-lots, however it is not dated.  This town was never built, and until this research, the planned location was unknown.  This presentation focuses on the methods used in the discovery of the planned location for the Town of Pleasant Garden; by using a case study of researching land ownership history in the location where the town was to have been built in the late 1700s. The other curiosities deal with a bridge and a railroad; both planned, but never built.

South Central Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, Inc. (SCPGS) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization of genealogists.  Their primary geographic area of interest and coverage is Pennsylvania’s York and Adams Counties. Their purpose is to encourage and promote an interest in genealogy by collecting and preserving materials related to genealogy, encouraging the compilation and publication of family genealogies and histories, publishing materials of interest and benefit to members, holding meetings for the education of members and the public, and offering financial and volunteer support to the library at the York County History Center.

Monthly meetings are held in the Meeting Hall of the York County History Center, at 250 East Market Street, York, Pennsylvania unless otherwise noted. The business portion of the meeting begins at 2:15 PM and the program begins at about 2:30 PM. Meetings are FREE and open to the public.
