For those wanting to explore the possibility of becoming involved is invited to drop in to talk with current volunteers.
The Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Preservation Society is looking to expand its family of volunteers at the Heritage Village at Muddy Creek Forks this season. On Sunday, April 30, between 1:00 and 5:00 pm, anyone who would like to explore the possibility of becoming involved is invited to drop in to talk with current volunteers and get a behind-the-scenes perspective on the operation. For those who may not be sure, this is an opportunity to visit, ask questions and become more familiar with the operation.
A variety of volunteer opportunities are vital to keep the operation running smoothly, from groundskeepers to the Board of Directors, and numerous positions in between. Some of these include train operators; store clerks; ticket agents; maintaining and restoring equipment, track and buildings; historic interpreters; planning and implementing special events; and handling publicity and administrative functions.
There is no commitment to the organization by attending this drop-in gathering, however it is not intended as a tour for the general public. This is an event for individuals who may wish to help preserve and share the unique history of the village and railroad. Light refreshments will be served
The railroad is located at 1258 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Airville, Pa. 17302 (Geo Code: 39.808470, – 76.475649).
