The journey takes place on Saturdays, Dec. 2 and 9, at 5 pm and 7 pm, and on Saturday, Dec. 16, and Sundays, Dec. 3, 10, and 17 at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. This holiday adventure, complete with a train journey aboard the Ma & Pa Railroad through the Muddy Creek Valley, is a charming way for Central Pennsylvanians to celebrate the holiday season.
The Christmas City Express tale recounts the overnight journey of a young girl traveling by train to her grandparents for Christmas who is stranded in a terrible blizzard and how the train crew saves Christmas for everyone on board.
Because it gets dark earlier at this time of year, riders can choose the rare opportunity to experience a nighttime train excursion.
The event includes a dramatic reading of the Christmas City Express, a visit from Santa, a motorcar train ride on the Ma & Pa Railroad, crafts for all ages, carol singing, antique model trains, hot chocolate, and cookies, a chance to win the coveted pickle prize, and a keepsake ornament.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for children 3-12. Those under 3 are free. Online advance purchase of tickets is required. Tickets can be secured by visiting www.MaAndPaRailroad.com. Those without internet access may call 717-927-9565.
