Community Cookout Featuring Jay Rock

As our organization continues to define itself, we turn to the medium that’s empowered social activism for decades. In partnership with the Cultural Alliance and artist, Jay Rock, The Movement is hosting a community cookout with a live street art demonstration. Jay is adding some flair to our most beloved (and relied upon) asset–our box truck.

A significant part of The Movement’s work involves hauling free resources from those who have them to those who need them. Anu and volunteers drive thousands of miles in and around York County each year with pallets of food, furniture, and other large donations. This summer, our organization received a grant that made it possible to purchase a box truck for this work. Previously, we’d been renting vehicles several times a month.

Jay Rock will paint a community-themed mural on the box truck. A project this big will take place over the entire month of October, but he’ll wrap up that back gate live as part of this event. His inspiration for the piece is our motto: “the voice for the voiceless.”

Come together with The Movement for this community event to honor our collective work, enjoy art, eat free food, and hold space together.  The artwork will serve as a symbolic gesture and reminders that the community leads our work.
