EASTERN MUSIC: AN INTRODUCTION
WHEN: 11 am – 3 pm, scheduled sessions on the hour
WHERE: In the Appell Chapel at St John Episcopal
WHAT: Take 30 minutes with ethnomusicologist Jan Protopapas to “go deep” in a mini-workshop on Indian classical vocal music with harmonium. Learn a simple melody in an Indian raga accompanied by a cyclical rhythm and experience new sounds as Jan leads small groups through exploratory activities.

HANDS-ON HARPSICHORD
WHEN: Between 11 am- 3 pm every 30 minutes
WHERE: St John Episcopal (Parish Hall – or The Commons)
WHAT: See, touch, learn about, and play a clavichord and a (digital) harpsichord. Learn why a harpsichord isn’t a piano and bring a short Baroque piece to try the instruments. Periodic period-accurate performances may just…break out, so come ready to jump in and play! Pop-up performances by local quartet “Going for B’roque”

CHIME-O-RAMA
WHEN: Throughout the day 11am – 3 pm (not between 1-2pm)
WHERE: St John Episcopal (The Commons)
WHAT: Two octaves of BOOM WHACKERS and Malmark hand chimes will be set up for anyone to step in and try their hand – drop-in sessions will run about 15 minutes, and all that is required is a sense of adventure, the ability to distinguish colors, and a sense of humor about just how tricky it can be to have only ONE note to play…Learn the signature festival piece “Carol of the Bells”!

FLUTE FACTORY: JUST FLUTING A-ROUND
WHEN: 11am-3pm, drop-in sessions every 20-30 minutes (decorating is ongoing at will)
WHERE: St John Episcopal (Parish Hall)
WHAT: Come learn about flutes and whistles at the flute factory with Alicia Kosack and friends! Participants will get to choose their own colorful whistle and can personalize their instrument at our craft table, then learn some simple tunes and play a round with their new festival friends. See Alicia’s amazing collection of flutes and pipes, hear her demonstrate some of the more unusual flutes, try out a “regular” flute, and decorate your own Penny Whistle to take home with you as a souvenir – AND enjoy Mozart’s MAGIC Flute scene, happening in the same space…

THE MAGIC FLUTE: AN OPERA ADVENTURE
WHEN: 11am – 2:30pm, every hour and half hour (approx.. 15-minute session)
WHERE: St John Episcopal (Parish Hall)
WHAT: Embark on a whimsical journey with Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”! This enchanting opera weaves a tale of love, wisdom, and trials as Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno set out to rescue Princess Pamina. Amidst mystical trials and charming characters, they navigate the whimsical world of The Queen of the Night, encountering music, magic, and Masonic symbolism. But here’s the real magic: Keystone Opera invites you to dive into the enchantment yourself! Join us for an interactive workshop where both young and old can don costumes, explore the flute’s melodies, and learn the secrets of this timeless opera from local opera virtuosos. It’s not just a performance; it’s a hands-on experience where the magic of Mozart comes to life! Don’t miss the chance to be part of this operatic adventure with Keystone Opera.
