Step inside the Colonial Court House and discover the Articles of Confederation!

Through a variety of interactive stations, learn about the document that defined the new nation’s first system of government. Free, family friendly activities will feature hands on experiences to learn how the United States government started here in York County. Visitors will enjoy make-and-take activities while exploring the Colonial Court House.    Discover how delegates worked through their differences to create the United States of America. Learn how documents and money were printed,  try writing with a quill pen and sign your personal Articles of Confederation. And more!  After you visit all the stations, ring the courthouse bell in celebration!

Fun for families, adults, and anyone interested in knowing more about what happened during the nine months the affairs of the United States were run from York, Pennsylvania.  Stop in anytime between 10:00 and 2:00 for fun and history at the York County History Center’s Articles of Confederation Day! Tours of the General Horatio Gates House and Golden Plough Tavern will be offered at 10, 11, 1, 2, 3 as well.

Activities include:

  • Photo booth faceboards
  • Pay for your crime in the pillory
  • 18th century dress up
  • Try your hand at block printing
  • Sign your name on the Articles with a quill pen
  • Make your own star for the flag
  • Negotiate to an agreement on the Articles through play
  • Discover Colonial Currency
  • Check out the display original copy of AOC

Passports to stamp with the reward being to ring the bell.
