Call for Art: The Adult Juried Art Exhibition hangs in the Creative York Kerlin Gallery during the YorkFest Fine Arts Festival.

The Adult Juried Art Exhibition hangs in the Creative York Kerlin Gallery during the YorkFest Fine Arts Festival. The exhibition will be on display from August 24 – September 22, 2018. Creative York will host the Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony as the kick-off to Yorkfest events on Friday, August 24 from 6-8 pm.

Cash awards totaling $1,000 will be presented by the juror. One Best of Show prize of $500 will be given and up to five Awards of Distinction will be granted by the sole and final decision of the juror.

If you are submitting, please know that the jurying process can take some time, especially with an out-of-town juror. We plan to send out acceptance notifications by August 1, 2018.

ABOUT THE JUROR: Laura Amussen was born in Auburn, CA in 1973. She spent most of her life in Salt Lake City, UT until she moved to Baltimore, MD in 1995. Since graduating from MICA, Rinehart School of Sculpture in 2006 Amussen has been an active participant in the local art scene. She teaches full time at Towson University in the Art Department and is an independent curator. She was the director of exhibitions and curator at Goucher College for over ten years.

Ms. Amussen is the recipient of numerous grants, awards and honors. She was awarded the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship, which paid up to $50,000 per year for the length of her graduate studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art, as well as the Jacob K. Javits Graduate Fellowship, and a Maryland Institute College of Art Fellowship. She was chosen as one of ten finalists by juror, Mary Ceruti, Executive Director, SculptureCenter, New York, for the 2007 Miami University Young Sculptors Competition, William and Dorothy Yeck Award of $10,000. She received an Andy Warhol Grant through Appalachian State University. Amussen has also received grants from the Maryland State Arts Council. And has been a semi-finalist for the Trawick Prize multiple times.

Her work has exhibited internationally, and has been featured and reviewed in many publications including Sculpture Magazine, The New York Times, City Paper, The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Magazine, Maryland Life, and The Washington Post.
