Canals, Stagecoaches, and Steam in 19th Century PA

Matt Maris is a high school history teacher, public historian, and owner of Local Historia LLC. Local Historia is a passion for local history, community, and preservation. Matt provides walking tours in Bellefonte and other communities in Central PA. The presentation will be on Pennsylvania Canals, elaborating on primary sources that illustrate canal life, a discussion of the PA canal journey of Charles Dickens in 1842, and some examples of canal remnants/remains.
Fun Fact: Matt was even a volunteer with the York County History Center during his time in York.
