"Pickett’s Charge: What was Lee Thinking?"

Presented by York County History Center at Unknown

Feb 15 2023

A York Civil War Roundtable program in partnership with the York County History Center.

February 15 join Jim Hessler on a webinar to see What was Lee Thinking?

The doomed July 3 assault known popularly as “Pickett’s Charge” at Gettysburg is frequently considered to be one of General Robert E. Lee’s greatest military mistakes. As a result, generations of Civil War enthusiasts have mistakenly assumed that the idea was doomed and suicidal from the outset. “What was Lee thinking when he ordered this?” is one of the most common questions by modern visitors to the battlefield. Join historian and Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide Jim Hessler as he answers this question and walks us through the strategic and tactical situation facing Lee to see how this infamously misunderstood assault came together.

This webinar will be available through Zoom and Facebook Live.
