I have been making art my entire life, but it wasn’t until high school that I realized it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I attended Pennsylvania College of Art & Design and graduated with a BFA in illustration in 2017. Since then my art has been changing and developing into what it is now. I love painting and drawing anything botanical (especially mushrooms) and creating surreal illustrations. I love making art accessible. Aside from having prints and originals, I also love making stickers and other smaller pieces (like keychains, magnets, and pins) as well as handmade sketchbooks with hand painted covers! Creativity is such a huge and important part of my life, and I want to share it with the world!

AIE Teaching Artist; Literary Arts; Performing Arts: Music, Spoken Word; Visual Arts: Functional and/or Decorative, Performers and Writers; Furniture
Utilizing my 20-plus years as an educator and writer,  I taught a Creative Writing class at Windy Hill Senior Center during the summer of 2023.  This is my second year there , and this year I had help with funding from the York Cultural Alliance. For the seniors in the class, I created a class syllabus centered on memoir and poetry, and focusing on the positive experiences of a diverse group of participants. As part of the teaching project, I recorded the author’s reading their work and have created a Soundcloud page that features their readings. This way, the participants are able to share their stories with relatives all over the United States and the world. That site  and their stories can be found here: https://soundcloud.com/windy-hill-senior-writing THis experience has led me to pursue creating a poetry podcast, which will debut this fall . It is called “Tone and Mood” and features artists reading and interpeting poetry with their own created background. I was also fortunate enough to present at York Pecha Kucha this past year; the title of my presentation was “Catching Night Before Dawn” and my talk focused on my progression as an artist. It was illuminating to participate in this event, and I felt the experience further connected me to the York arts community. I am also a blues and Americana musician and perform under the name Olds Sleeper.  This year I released two albums of original music. “City Like a Broken Song” was released in January 2023 and features a mix of originals that draw from Delta blues, old country, folk and Americana. Also this year, I released an album I have been thinking about doing for a long time.  The album is entitled “FOR CLYDE” and it a collection of banjo tunes dedicated to my grandfather, Clyde Fallin. He was an immense supporter of my musical interests and I inherited his banjo when he passed away in 2015. That album can be found here: https://oldssleeper.bandcamp.com/album/for-clyde-a-banjo-compilation I have been performing live for over 12 years and this year played more than 20 live dates around York county, with regular appearances at Wyndridge Farms, The King George Speakeasy, Archetype Pizza and Balla Cloiche winery. These live gigs have given me the opportunity to interact with the community and share my art in a personal setting. I have also spent several mornings busking outside of Central Market, and enjoy the interaction I get there as well. I get to meet all sorts of York residents, and many of them feel compelled to talk to me because I am playing music on the street. I have released over 20 albums of music that reflects my experiences in this region. All of my music can be found @ www.oldssleeper.bandcamp.com I am also an avid photographer and have produced hundreds of photos of the York County region, primarily focusing on rural themes and animals.  I  also design, build and sell primitive, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces inspired by German woodworking and Shaker styles. I use upcycled barn wood and reclaimed lumber to produce benches, hanging boxes, small cabinets and rustic frames. Each of these pieces are unique and are sold locally. I love to pour myself into creative endeavors,  and I feel an obligation to share and encourage others to pursue their creative passions. I love the “chase” of art and music, and am always waiting for the next idea to drop.

I dream big, I love hard, I believe in people, I am insatiably curious. My filmmaking career is difficult to summarize. I’ve worked on nearly 100 narrative film projects and approaching 300 corporate and commercial videos. The nature of my work has spanned from being a Production Assistant on student films to producing and directing feature films for international distribution. Filmmaking is a team sport, and I am in love with he process of creating and telling stories as part of a team. Whether I am directing the project, setting up the lighting, or performing as an actor, the thing I love most is collaborating with people that I know, like, and respect with the goal of creating something bigger than any of us could have created on our own. In addition to my personal goals, I am passionate about building the film industry in York. I’ve volunteered time and resources to the York Film Office, created educational internships for students, worked with tentpole organizations in our community to advance filmmaking initiatives and advocate for legislative reform, and am currently in negotiations with two local colleges to bolster their film programs.

Visual Arts: Illustration, Works on paper; Charcoal
I’m a York PA based artist who grew up in Lancaster and have been an artist practically my entire life. When I was seven years old I remember my first drawing being put on the refrigerator (it was a race car speeding to the finish line!) I felt so proud and that is the exact moment when my art career began. I find daily inspiration in my pets and how they make me feel. I attended the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in Lancaster and majored in Illustration. This is the first place where I was introduced to Vine Charcoal, my preferred medium. I regularly participates in art markets in York and Lancaster where I sells prints of my work as well as original pieces. I’ve participated in several group shows at Mulberry Art Studios where I was awarded Best in Show in 2019 and 2020. I was also featured at Mulberry Art Studio in a solo exhibit in December of 2019.

Many of my early summers were spent exploring the creek bed with sopping wet sneakers, looking at insects, running through fields of weeds taller than myself, and checking my hair for spiders afterward. Today, my paintings celebrate the life I discovered in the woods behind my childhood home. I borrow from those memories while inserting an extra dose of color, strangeness, and whimsy. I received my BFA in Ceramics and Drawing from Millersville University in 2012 and a post-baccalaureate from Syracuse University in 2015. You’ll find me selling my art at the occasional art fair, teaching art classes, working in my artist studio in downtown York, PA, and hosting regular sustainability events like my Secondhand Art Supply Swap for the creative community. Limiting the environmental impact of my artwork is a high priority in my studio. My prints and packaging are made from recycled materials, original works of art are oftentimes created using secondhand materials, and more. I’m nowhere near perfect, but I’m learning more everyday and continuing to adjust so that someday my studio will be guilt-free.

    Rob Homan
    Visual Arts: Mixed Media
Rob’s always been fascinated with the grain patterns in wood and loves the material because it’s versatile, durable and soulful – so this is the medium he always gravitates to.  His journey working with wood has taken a scenic route, trying all the ways to shape and repurpose wood, but ultimately found that carving is his preferred method.  He has an equal affinity for home cooking, so the first thing he was meant to carve was a wooden spoon.  Over a few years, his woodcarving grew into other cooking utensils, fruit bowls, cutting boards, small tables and stools. As much as he loves making functional wooden objects, he was eager to do something larger and with a different expression.  Rob recently found inspiration in his Polish heritage – not only in cooking, but in the folk art and designs.  Wycinanki (paper cutting/layering) and Pysanky (beeswax designs on dyed eggs) are two vibrant art forms that resonated immediately because he saw his grandmother doing this when he was young.  Using the traditional folk art as inspiration, he decided to take his own approach by carving these designs out of wood and at a much larger scale.  Wood tones are beautiful, but they are muted earth tones.  Rob wanted to get those bright colors used in wycinanki into these pieces, so he began experimenting with acrylic and spray paint to contrast the wood grain and texture. Most Recently, he painted two murals for York Mural Fest – Partnership of Sprocket Mural Works & Parliament Arts

I am a painter whose work focuses upon the landscapes of paths travelled by location and interpretation. Important to my work is how light evidences form by its revelation of surface qualities in layers. My joy is sharing the experiences of observation , location and cross cultural contexts in the places where I travel. I endeavor to use formal qualities of observation to express myself in the visual language and medium of my choice.

Hello!  Thank you so much for checking out my work!  I’m a self taught Artist specializing in pet portraits.  I love animals and I love art so it all just kind of  came together.   I was born with a burning desire to draw, paint, and create.  I’m forever grateful to my mother, who is also an artist, to nurture my creativity throughout my life.  I’ve been fortunate enough in my career as a freelancing artist that I am able to paint pet portrait commissions full time. While I love pet portraits, I am also dedicated to learning new techniques and mastering new subjects to continue to flourish my art career and broaden my horizon’s.  I am excited each new day to see where my creativity takes me and to have endless possibilities unfold.
